Meet the Makers

Mark Gooch
I was born on 31st January 1973. In a small village near Newmarket England.
After leaving school at 16 I started working for a firm restoring antique furniture this lasted about two years and finished due to transport problems, a short spells of unemployment and short term jobs followed.
I started making miniature furniture in 1994 as a hobby to fill the time not knowing it was possible to make a living from it, after a few months luckily a dolls house shop opened in a near by town, I became self-employed in 1995.
I also sold furniture at local fairs then moving up to national fairs. This was where I become aware of how big the dolls house business is, serious collectors and museums all over the world, It was then, when I decided to spend more time making more challenging and detailed pieces, I sold my first piece to a museum in 1997. Each piece I make now is more complicated than the last. I make pieces from all periods and specialize in mechanical furniture. I sold several of my best pieces to Bob Gault in 2004 and all of my major pieces ever since. I try to make at least one major piece each year in between commissions
