Unique Fabergé Egg In Cumbria
A totally unique golden egg, made in the style of the great jeweller, Fabergé is to go on display over Easter in Cumbria, after which time it will be returned to the owner's private collection. In keeping with it's surroundings in' A World in Miniature Museum' just outside Carlisle, the delightful tiny egg made of solid gold, which opens to reveal a tiny harvest mouse with a diamond, was made as a 1/12 scale miniature of what would have been the size of the original Fabergé eggs and is in the style of the 'Coronation' egg. There is only one like it in the world and it was made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 'Miniatura', the industry show for serious collectors of miniatures which is held twice a year at the NEC. The maker, Stephen Randall, of Royal Tunbridge Wells Miniatures has guaranteed never to duplicate the golden egg, despite being offered "substantial sums of money" by an Arab Prince to do so, so this really is a totally unique object. Stephen was delighted that the egg is being kept within the UK. Stephen is well known in the 'Miniatures' world, having made special commissions for Her Majesty the Queen's birthday and Prince Charles, as well as normal size religious silverware for many famous churches and Abbeys and the trophies for Crufts dog show and the racing world on an annual basis. Ironically his work was so well known that Fabergé themselves actually offered him a job!!
